What are some diet plans for a diabetic with high cholesterol?

Q. I am an uninsured diabetic who just found out that I have high cholesterol as well. Because I have no insurance I see a sliding scale doctor. They pretty much diagnose me, prescribe medication and offer me little to no advice as to what to eat. Can someone offer me some advice on a diet that may work to lower my cholesterol as well as keep my sugar where it needs to be?

A. High LDL, low HDL, and high triglycerides are common in Type 2 diabetics, especially severely insulin resistant Type 2s. I have known individuals diagnosed with Type 2 whose triglycerides were off the charts (1000+).

The best way to lower triglyceride levels is to lower carbohydrates. I dropped mine from 115 to 70 by just cutting out starches and sugars. Most doctors will tell you to limit fat to drop LDL, but my diet is very high in fat (at least 60% of my diet on most days), including saturated fat (yes, butter - lots of butter), and my LDL fell to 81 from the high 120s and my HDL increased 13 points. A traditional diet to improve cholesterol is full of carbohydrates, like oats and low-fat yogurt, low-fat cheese, and milk, but all those foods will raise your blood sugar and that will work against your cholesterol-lowering goals. Dietary fat is really not the enemy and I think a lot of confusion stems from the fact that lipids are known as 'blood fat.' There's this idea comes from equivocating different types of fat, assuming that dietary fat causes blood fat and body fat. I lost about 75 pounds eating more fat, my cholesterol improved by all measures, and my A1c dropped from over 11% to the low 5% range.

So, I would encourage you to cut back on your carbohydrates, especially grains, corn, oats, potatoes, rice, and sugar, even fruit, and to up your protein, healthy fats, including saturated, and non-starchy vegetables.

Exercise can improve HDL and omega-3 fish oil is great for lowering triglycerides, so these are some supplementary moves you can make along with dietary changes to improve cholesterol and trigs.

I'm sorry your doctor sent you home without more info. I, too, was seeing a sliding scale doctor after I was diagnosed and he gave me very few tips. I began panicking, searching the internet for help, and I talked to some great people who told me what to try. I haven't looked back. Low-carb diets are the way to go if you are a Type 2.

What diet pills work the best without having to do much or a diet?

Q. I just had a baby and trying to lose some weight before my husband gets back from Iraq :) I dont have much time to diet or work out but I try at time and do try and watch what I eat if I even have the time to. Please help me out as much as you can...thanks so much!

A. I would suggest just proper diet and exersize, because if you are still breastfeeding your baby, the chemicals in the weightloss pills could be ridiculously harmful to your baby, also, there is NO TELLING what they put in those pills.
Congratulations on your husband coming home, God Bless him for serving his country. My husband just came back in May and though he was injured, it was the happiest day of my life to see him alive!

Good luck and God bless!

How does nutrition assistance aka food stamps work?

Q. I live in Arizona and the unemployment rate here is $240.00 before federal and state taxes. You are then left with $214.00. I was wondering how does nutrition assistance aka food stamps work? Do you receive a check, or a debit card?

A. The first thing you should do is go to the website, and use the screening tool to see if you might qualify: https://www.azdes.gov/variant.aspx?id=5199

You can view the formula for eligibility requirements by visiting: https://www.azdes.gov/main.aspx?menu=355&id=5202

You receive a card that contains your nutrition assistance on it. The card works like an ATM or Debit card at grocery stores and other places where EBT is accepted. The card is a QUEST Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that is issued to the receiptant by JP Morgan. Sometimes they send you a card, and then later you learn that you are ineligible, it's the way their system works.

What exercise balls work best for hedgehogs?

Q. I want to buy an exercise ball for my hedgehog but I'm concerned his feet might get caught in the air holes. What exercise ball is most recommended for hedgehogs?

A. There isn't one. Aside from toenails getting caught and ripped out in the ventilation holes, there's inadequate ventilation period, and as they tend to poop and pee on the run, they can turn into a hedgehog waste distribution machine all over your carpet, let alone the poor hedgehog being trapped in a washing machine of its own waste. Not recommended. Get a sturdy bucket wheel (Carolina Storm) instead for exercise.

You can create a small play area using plastic storage 'cube' panels on a blanket on the floor for free range exercise, but always inspect your hedgehog's legs and feet after play time outside as they are prone to getting hairs/fibers wrapped around their feet and legs. Some hedgehogs have had to have feet and legs amputatated as their owners never paid attention until it was too late.

How many carbs can i eat in the Atkins diet?

Q. Hi, I am thinking of doing my own Atkins thing but i am not sure how many carbs can i have a day. Does cheese have alot of carbs? How fast will i lose weight?

A. pills..drugs...food..everyone misses the most important aspect..exercise...if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but EXERCISING!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that.

1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day

2.) drink lots of water

3.)exercise every day

4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep

instead of an Atkins diet I suggest the South Beach Diet

How do you calculate your frame size to obtain an accurate BMI calculation?

Q. Also, does anyone know the site with the best BMI calculator - including a calculator that considers half inch height measurements?

A. I like this one. But you do HAVE to hit calculate BMI or else it won't work. I just did mine at 5'8.5" and it didn't have an issue with it.

http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/?htf=5&hti=8.5&wt=260&bmi=

This one is the one from the CDC (Center for Disease Control). If anyone is gonna have a good BMI calculator the CDC is. The links have one for kids/teens and adults. Again, did mine for 5'8.5" and it worked no issue.

How to lose weight in my circumstances?

Q. I am 17 years old, and I am starting to get love handles and chest fat. I'm not obese or even overweight according to my BMI --I can even dress up casually and not look fat at all--, but I don't want this increase in mass to go on any further. What are your suggestions on daily exercise routines? Or do you have a website where I can find info for teens? I know teenagers burn calories faster than adults, so most of the routines I've found I don't think apply to me. Currently I am running one to two miles every day, doing 50 sit ups, and 25 push ups. I am planning on doubling the sit ups and push ups just as soon as I get used to the current amount. So please guide me in this if you can.
I am 5'7" and weigh 152 lbs.

A. Get Lean with the Magnetic Diet Seven Step Plan

Combined with strength conditioning, energization exercises, pranayama life force control and meditation the magnetic diet seven step plan will when followed guarantee that you achieve a low level of body fat in a predetermined period of time. Ultimate leanness is defined as single digit body fat percentages for men and low teen body fat percentages for women. This is the level of body fat necessary if you want to be able to actually see the definition of your abdominal muscles. The magnet diet in combination with the right amount of physical activity will create the necessary calorie deficit to achieve ultimate leanness. The time it takes for you to achieve that will of course depend on how much fat you have to lose.

For example, if you currently weigh 200 pounds and are at 23% body fat and your goal is to be at 9% body fat you have about 25 pounds of fat to loose. To loose 25 pounds of fat while maintaining or even gaining muscle should take you approximately 6 to 7 months. You can lose 25 pounds in a much quicker time frame, but will it be 25 pounds of fat? No it will not, remember when you lose weight too quickly much of the weight lost can end up being muscle. And as we learned earlier if you lose muscle you will create the condition for a boomerang weight gain of fat down the road. Now 6 to 7 months may sound like a long time but in reality its not. In our society we want everything quick and easy, but the truth is that nothing worth having comes quick or easy. 6 to 7 months of your life will pass by no matter what you do, you cannot stop time. But by following the magnetic diet seven step success plan the difference will be that 6 to 7 months from the time you start you will have achieved your goal, you will have attained your desired body fat percentage, you will look great and most important of all you will have achieved a very high level of health and vitality. Remember the goal is to lose fat and maintain or even gain muscle so losing the fat slowly is the way. Here is the plan:

Step 1.

Determine your current body fat percentage

Get your body fat measured by a personal trainer or health professional, or purchase Tanita body composition monitor or other similar device.

Step 2.

Decide on a goal body fat percentage:

Whatâs it going to be 15%, 10%, 5%? They are all achievable, you just have to decide. Once you have decided then calculate the amount of fat that you will have to lose. Take you current body fat percentage minus the goal body fat percentage and convert that to a decimal value add 1 and divide your current weight by that amount. The difference between the result and your current weight is the number of pounds of fat you need to lose. For example a 200 pound person at a 23% body fat who wants to achieve a 9% body fat would do the following:

23 percent minus 9 percent = 14 percent
14 percent = .14
.14 +1 = 1.14
200 pounds divided by 1.14 = 175 pounds
200 â 175 = 25 pounds of fat to lose

Step 3.

Determine your current resting metabolic rate

Determine your current resting metabolic rate using the formulas on page 112.

Step 4.

Determine your maximum daily caloric intake

Remember you want to create a calorie per day deficit so maximum daily caloric intake is equal to your resting metabolic rate plus any additional physical activity as measured in calories minus 500 calories.

Use this as a tool: http://www.magnetic-diet.com/calc/daily_calorie_calculator.htm

Step 5.

Adjust the diet using portion sizes and snacks

Adjust the portion sizes slightly in the main meals or add or subtract snack portions to get to the maximum daily caloric intake.

Step 6

Determine the length of time to achieve your goal

The amount of fat you need to lose divided by a pound a week = the number of weeks it will take to achieve your goal.

Step 7

Follow the Magnetic Diet Seven Day Success Plan Not only will it result in your achieving your goal but it will ensure life long health and vitality. Adjust your caloric intake and activity level as your weight drops. Remember as your body weight drops so do your caloric needs. You must reduce your caloric intake or you will reach a plateau.

Does jenny Craig really work, and how long before you see results?

Q. I've been in this program and yes sometimes I don't eat my food but to gain 4 pounds in 6 weeks what is going on?

A. you have to eat to lose! I did Jenny craig as well and lost weight. Try a cleansing diet! I did and lost 11 pounds and 21 inches in only 9 days. I was very happy with the results and continued on the program and lost 29 pounds in 5 weeks. This is the fastest I have ever lost with other diets like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Slimfast etcâ¦. Cleansing works by removing impurities from your body. You get impurities from your food (pesticides, preservatives, food additives, colorings) water, chemicals, pollution, medications, alcohol, hormones that the animals you eat were fed etcâ¦.YUCK! The impurites get coated with fat and remain in your body. To remove the fat, you have to remove the impurites. This system worked for me, maybe it can work for you too. You can check out the website or call this toll free number 1-877-587-4647 for more info. The program is not cheap, but it is worth every penny since it works and keeps you motivated. Good luck! How can i lose 20 pounds without having to pay for jenny craig?
Q. i need a workout plan that is fool proof and i can stick to it. i have a problem with deits but i am ready to commit.

A. This is what I did~~~~~and lost 25lbs~~~I've kept it off for 20 years. First DON'T starve yourself! You need to eat 5 small meals a day. Breakfast is very important. I would do about 600 cals. for the first meal, 200 cals for the second,600 cals. for the third ,400 cals. for the fourth, 200 cals for the fifth. That's a total of 2000 cals a day. This along with exercise should get your metabolism in shape. Plus, you are basically burning most of what you eat before your next meal. Your body won't want to store the fat because it's getting a consistent amount of food. (If you think the cal amount is wrong ~~~ check how many you should be taking in. If you are over 5'7 you'll probably need more)

What immediate nutrition support method and specialty products would be recommended?

Q. A 43 yr old Chines-Filipino had recent partial gastrectomy. She has history of type 2 diabetes for 2 yrs and cancer of the stomach. She is 75% of her usual weight, which is 125lbs, she is 5 feet 5 inches tall.

A. My husband just succumbed to cancer recently. We tried many things but the thing that worked the best is a product called StemEnhance. It is, basically, adult stem cells and they accomplish the same things as a baby's stem cells would. Stem cells can become any cell in the body. If there is a bad section of the body, these stem cells will go straight to them and start to grow healthy cells. I would ask a doctor before trying them as I don't know what they would do with diabetes. Hope that this answered your ?

How good nutrition is related to the other components of personal fitness?
Q. Also, what are the three components of a sound weight (fat) control program?

A. Outside of activity (of almost any sort) nutrition is a huge factor in weight loss ... calories in must be less than spent calories to lose weight. Period.

Diets are short term solutions to generally poor habits we've learned in eating ... it's not that tough to change however - you just need to want it badly enough. (Making right food choices seems overwhelming at first but remember, if it took 5 years to put on the weight it will take time to lose it and be in shape once again.)

Eat nutritious foods (generally not ready made) and start exercising slowly and then add to it. Stick with it! Make it easy and make it fun!

There are no 'magic' formulas to losing fat. Weight loss is weight loss but you are better served to do some aerobic and anaerobic activities. Meaning, if you lift weights it adds to overall muscle mass (adding body weight) but it also increases metabolism (that will in turn burn calories - including fat.)

Good luck!

How is nutrition related to neuroscience and how does it affect the brain?
Q. Also, anything related to how chemicals in certain foods, like chocolate, affect the brain will be helpful! Thank you!

A. ⢠It is commonly believed that eating carbohydrates is bad for your waistline or health, but this is so not true. Low fat carbohydrates allow the brain to make more serotonin after triggering an insulin release and causing any amino acids in the blood to be absorbed into the body, making you feel better and even helping you with your weight issues.

⢠Eating carbohydrates on their own is a good idea to increase serotonin levels as fat and protein can interfere with the serotonin making process. Low carbohydrate dieters are more likely to suffer from lack of energy and low moods and high protein foods tend to lower brain tryptophan which in turn will lessen serotonin levels.

⢠Tryptophan is involved in the production of serotonin, which is a natural tranquilizer. It is useful in treatment of depression and anxiety attacks and it helps reduce the manic phase of depression with much fewer side effects than anti-depressants. Combined with vitamin B-6, tryptophan may be also helpful in reducing panic attacks.

⢠Tryptophan is used in smoking cessation, grinding teeth during sleep, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder- ADHD and in improving athletic performance.

Q. I have tried every diet book out there. So far, the only thing that's worked for me is a raw diet but I never can stick to it for long!

A. I still eat everything but in moderation and I count the calories that I take to know if I should stop eating for the day because I'm in a 1,000calorie diet, but in that everything I avoid junk foods like chips which I crave for and sweets because they have lots of calories but sometimes maybe once/twice a month its not bad to satisfy your craving, satisfy ok not to be gluttonous for a day and since dieting makes your metabolism slow I also do exercise like jumping rope.
p.s dont eat much carbs I'm Asian and one of our staple foods is rice so in a meal I ate half a rice and dont forget your water.

What diet plans have you had success with?

Q. I am seriously OB I am 6' and weigh 376 I gained a ton of weight when I quit smoking. I am starting to have complications from my weight and just want to be healthy and feel good. I was just wondering what some others have had success with.

A. i follow a long term low carb diet and it works wonders!! but if u try and and eat high amount of carbs ul put the weight back on in days! so yeh its a long term life style. u gotta like ur meat and eggs!!
people get fat because they consume high amount of carbs not fat. research it!

What are good websites to get healthy diet plans?
Q. I don't want a healthy diet plan because I want to loose weight, I want it so I can stay healthy and improve my performance in sports. If you know any websites that can be helpful to me as a cross country and track runner please let me know , websites that include the science behind why it works. Like electrolytes, the foods that provide oxygen to your blood and muscle, and so forth.

A. Look at this 'Diets & Weight Loss' section:

What are some diet plans for morbidly obese people?
Q. I have an emotional attachment to food. When I'm stressed, sad, scared, lonely, or whatever I will start eating a lot of junk food. I have piled on the weight over the years and I'm over 300 pounds now. I don't know where to go or what to do. Are there guidelines or diet plans for morbidly obese people?

A. Its very hard to control food intake when having an emotional attachment to food; I know what you feel. But it's good already that you realize that this is your problem. Perhaps more exercise will help controlling your weight; but in any case I think no exercise or diet will succeed unless you address the root cause; your emotional attachment to food. I have the same problem, and found that especially at home Im very prone to compulsive, emotional over-eating.

I found it helpful to be with people which distracts and suppresses the need to eat. Also any activities that require you to be out of your normal surrounding is great to help distract me from food. It does not resolve the problem, but to an extend I have managed to keep at least my weight reasonable stable. A support group like suggested before may help.

How accurate are the calorie counters on treadmills and cardio equipment?

Q. Any ideas on how accurate the counters are on treadmills and other cardio equipment at the gym? My gym uses Precor equipment and I always wonder how close the display is to the actual calories I'm burning. Obviously it's probably a little closer if you put in your age and weight, but what about basic muscle mass and body composition?

A. They are totally just a toy added feature with no accuracy.
They assume everyone burns energy at the same rate which isn't right.

It comes down to your own individual bodies chemical composition and reactions.
Do your exercise everyday and use digital scales to keep an approximate record. And obviously eat a balanced diet.

Thanks for the site for calorie counter monitor watches but so many to choose from. Any pointers?
Q. Hoping to find some people who own one and what their experience is w/what they purchased. Recommend or not and why.

A. I bought one a few weeks ago just cause it looked soooo cool..it has a lot of buttons (wahooo!) and cool sounds when something is happening, or going to happen, or already happened or something...anyways as a workout tool it's totally useless...oh yeah... it has cool little lights on it too. The heart rate monitor is wayyyy off (if it works at all). If I want to calorie count I have to reset my weight every time and then I have to go double check it on the net anyway because it doesn't seem right (and I'm right..it's never right D'OH!) It doesn't have a lap timer..on and on..I wouldn't buy another one.

where can i find a calorie counter monitor?
Q. I want something like this so when i go out for a jog i know how much calories i am burning. Websites would be helpful or links.

A. There are lots of good websites. Go to Google and type the words "calorie calculator." Take your pick. An easy rule of thumb is to figure you will burn 100 calories per mile whether you walk it or run it. Unless you are really in good shape (running under 8 minutes per mile) the rule of thumb is quite reliable. Good luck!

How long after starting a gluten free diet will your stomach start to feel better?

Q. I have a gluten sensitivity. I just started going gluten free a week ago but I still get stomach pain and I'm still running to the bathroom. How long does the diet take to workk?

A. Well I'm not sure if you are hoping to lose weight or if you are just looking to resolve some stomic issues but here was my experience:

I was constantly running to the bathroom for about two or three weeks after I started.

If weight loss is your goal then I do have some good news (but this is really only if you truely are gluten intollerant) after the first 3 weeks of no exercise what so ever I lost 12 pounds. At that point I got really excited and started hitting the gym and now I am 6 weeks into my diet and have lost 21 pounds after putting on about 5 pounds of muscle and my body has changed dramatically. I always thought I was genetically fat but it turns out gluten intollerance runs in my family and I got on the diet after seeing the results of my other family members who did the same.

All of these results are with zero time in the gym or doing any sort of cardio
My aunt who first started the diet has lost 37 pounds in the 7 months she has done it (she was relatively thin to begin with.

My mom and another one of my aunts started it at the same time and one lost 29 in 5 months while my mom lost 51 (my mom was the heaviest)

My uncle started it 4 months ago and he has lost 35 pounds.

The really amazing thing is that with the exception of myself all the people I listed are in their late 40's or early 50's (I'm 21) and have always struggled with being overweight or even obese. If you havent visited a professional about the diet then I suggest you do so because there are many other factors that may contribute. For example My mom, my aunt, and I all have B12 defficency and are also unable to process red meat while my uncle discovered he is allergic to quite a few fruits. Hope this was helpful in some way i kinda rambles lol

How long after beginning a gluten free diet should I notice a difference?
Q. I started a gluten free diet three days ago. When should I notice any benefit from it ?I'd like to lose some weight and just feel better.

A. I have celiac disease. I noticed my first relief from some of my symptoms in 3 days. Other symptoms took months to go away. Improvement in general well-being and energy and weight loss happened slowly, but steadily. For some people, noticeable improvement takes a long time on the diet.

Many people gain weight once they start a gluten-free diet, because their damaged intestines weren't absorbing the food they ate, so they couldn't get the nutrition they needed no matter how much they ate.

Others lose weight, because their bodies have been telling them they are starving for nutrients, so they constantly feel the need to eat to satisfy cravings; or because gluten intolerance can throw the thyroid or hormones out of balance and cause weight gain; or simply because, by cutting out gluten, they are eating fewer calories and are eating a larger percentage of healthier, non-processed foods, like meat and vegetables instead of, say, pizza.

If you are trying this as an elimination diet, you could re-introduce gluten after 3-6 weeks and see if you react negatively to eating it.

What reasons would one have a gluten-free diet other than having celiac disease?
Q. I heard on Y! Answers of a vegan who didn't eat gluten by choice apparently (they didn't appear to suffer from celiac disease). Are there any pros/reasons that you can think of that would convince a vegan to go gluten-free if they didn't suffer from celiac disease? Are there certain health benefits or anything?

A. Some people say that eating a gluten free diet is beneficial for neurological and mental conditions like ADHD, Autism and even anxiety and depression. Some people don't eat it because they just think it's healthier not to. Personally I don't think it makes any difference if you don't have any intolerance to gluten. I've also noticed that some people think they have a gluten intolerance when it's really a blood sugar problem from eating white refined grain products (white bread, white pasta, etc) and they're fine with whole grains.

What healthy diet can I follow when I'm not going to be home or around a refrigerator from 10 to 5?

Q. I'm going to be in classes from 10 to 5 daily during the week. What do you recommend I eat so I can still be healthy. I don't want to resort to junk food! I'm looking to lose weight.

A. Pack cans of Campbell's Healthy Selections soups and a microwavable bowl. Progresso also makes healthy soups. Also, toss in an apple or tomato or a banana. Pack individual cans or mini-bottles of V8.

What is a healthy diet for a swimmer trying to lose weight?
Q. I have looked at many weight loss diets and many restrict carbs, but I look at information about a swimmer's ideal diet and the main food is carbs.
How do you go about losing fat if you swim for 1hr/day for 4-5 days/week.

A. Regardless of your fat, protein, carb ratio, as long as calories in (eating) is less than calories out (burned off thru exercise and metabolism) you will drop weight.

The first thing you need to know is how many calories you need to "maintain" your weight (calculators will ask how much you currently weigh, height & work-out schedule). From there you can create a diet that is around 500 calories less than what you need to maintain (a 500 calorie deficit every day for 7 days will result in a loss of a pound..ie it takes 3,500 calories.). If you need "carbs" than you can focus on complex carbs (whole grains) to provide energy through-out the day.

Edit: There is a reason that health experts suggest only 1 - 2 pounds of loss a week. 500 - 1,000 calorie deficit is tough enough for most people...dropping it below that just isn't practical / healthy. This is especially true for people that are already healthy or close to healthy weights (and is what makes them anorexic).

Heavy people can drop off 500 - 1,000 calories a day easy but that is usually because they can eat 3,000 - 3,500 calories to "maintain" there current heavy weight. So what if they cut back to eating 2,000 calories a day that is still a good amount of food.

What is a healthy diet for 14 year old trying to loose weight?
Q. I have been getting out, riding my bike, exercising, etc., but i haven't noticed much of a weight change. I have have noticed that the things that the things that I have been eating aren't very healthy. I'm not sure what would be a healthy diet for me, but I am willing to go on one, so please help me!

A. Just eat things that seem natural. Get in your fiber, water, veggies etc.
Something that helped me was logging what I ate/how I exercised... I use myfitnesspal.com It's free and stuff but you'd just have to say you're older then you are when you make an account. It's now my new favorite thing... I love it. On it you log your exercise, calories, and water and it creates guidelines of how much of those you need to do to get a certain weight by a certain time.

What is the difference between the old Atkins Diet and the Dr Atkins All New Diet Revolution?

Q. Please I just want an answer if you know it.

I do not want any information about miracle diets or wonder drugs please.

I already just wasted on question with those types of replies.

Thanks
Honestly you people. Why bother to answer if you can't.

I am not interested in people who want to be fascetious and I certainly am not interested in people advertising their diet regimes. It was a simple question if you don't know the answer then don't bother with a reply.

A. No difference between the two.

The Atkins Diet that encourages high dairy and meat protein and fats, that 'eventually' plug up everyone's liver have not changed.

I agree with low carb high protein, just not making a diet of dairy-calcium, meat-cholesterol, and too many fats like I used to do.

Campbell's "The China Study" agrees with this view.

The people who are profiting from Atkins methods have changed only a little since Dr. Atkins passing. When it pays the bills it is hard to change one's view of the simple facts. Similar to someone who sells cigarettes for a living, who insists nicotine is not a carcinogen or addictive.

I HOPE you will take my advice that I posted for you and others at <>http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akw6EF9KqYEZEjdgXQYevPDty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090924021737AA5D9qV&show=7#profile-info-c19a4184b9a244c77149cbb9521f7f38aa<>

AND would understand my history and my complaints with the Atkins diet that I posted at <>http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090922235820AArWxgX&r=w<>

SOOoo you would not duplicate my own naivete, with yourself or with those you love, to your own hurt.

I WISH you good health with better info and insights than I have had.

My best to you and yours.

How should i start my atkins diet?
Q. I am going to start atkins diet monday. Should i start it by eating not many carbs sunday or should i eat alot of carbs sunday? Which way will i get better faster results to go into ketosis? ALSO if you know, On average how long does it take for the body to go into ketosis? Also does exercising help get into ketosis faster?

A. Atkins did not die from this dietâhe slipped on black ice while walking to his office, hit his head and died a week later. The radical vegan folks spread that lie a few years back, and it seems to rear its ugly head once in a while.

All your questions are answered in his book, so it sounds like you are trying to do Atkins without reading Atkins. Just get his book and read it, then you will know exactly what to do, and how to do it right. It can be a very successful and healthy diet, but you need more information than just what you think an Atkins diet is.

How many grams of fat should I have on Atkins diet and when will I start seeing results?
Q. Hi I have been on the Atkins diet for 2 weeks now, and I haven't lost any weight yet. I am actually a healthy BMI and I was just checking to see when I will start seeing results. Please let me know and here is my meal plan for today does it seem like I'm doing it right?

Breakfast: 2 eggs 1 slice of bacon and 2 tiny turkey sausages fried in butter

Lunch: Mahi Mahi in butter with homemade tartar sauce (dill pickle, mayonnaise, spices) and small salad with hearts of palm and lettuce with 1 table spoon blue cheese dressing and vinegar

Dinner: Hamburger patty with cheddar cheese or chicken?

A. you don't count fat in the Atkins diet. It's carbohydrates that you need to keep low. Eggs and bacon, fine. Turkey sausages may contain rusk - which is carbohydrate. Don't know what tartar sauce contains but dill pickle MAY have carbohydrate. Mayonnaise with full fat is fine but NOT low or lite versions. Blue cheese dressing MAY contain carbs.

Keep cheese low, some of it can contain carbs.

Any fish, meat, chicken, eggs, fine. Avoid processed meat if possible (that includes bacon and sausages).
Any salad or leafy green veg is fine, Avoid peas, carrots, etc, as they are starchy veg (carbs).
Butter, oil, fat, etc is fine.

My breakfast on Atkins would often be fried eggs, or scrambled eggs or hard boiled eggs, or cold meat from previous day or tuna, or salad or a mixture of these.

Lunch might be similar. Dinner would be some kind of protein with plenty of green veg.

I have provided a link to the Atkins site because they have plenty of info on there.

Make sure you eat PLENTY of fibre and drink PLENTY of water.

A helpful audio book is "The butt stops here: low carb version" by Pam Young. I have provided a link to her free videos that cover low carb

Do you know where to find a budget diet menu plan?

Q. Not just a diet please, a diet menu plan with complete meals and recipes. I just can't find one with a grocery list that costs lest than 50 bucks a week per person, and that's if I already have a fully stocked pantry. If I didn't have the pantry items like spices on hand, most meal plans I've seen would cost at least 200. Please tell me there's a budget menu out there :(

A. Unfortunately there are no plans out there that cost less than 50 bucks a week for a full week. Most of them out there cost about 30-50 dollars a day. However, Nutrisystem has a meal plan where they provide you with three meals a day plus snacks, and it really helps you lose weight for about 10 dollars a day. That is by far the cheapest one out there.

Where can I find free diet menus and workout plans online?
Q. I'm trying to lose weight & be overall more toned by the end of August, but I'm not sure what I should be eating & when during the day. Also, I dont know what types of excercise I should do & for how long in order to tone up my stomach and thighs. Im 5'6" and about 137lbs

A. Fitday.com has some of what you're looking for.
Also freetrainers.com http://www.freetrainers.com/FT/jsp/index.jsp
Workouts for you
http://www.workoutsforyou.com/

Usually it's recommended to eat about 5 small meals a day. Don't eat any refined sugar, don't drink soft drinks, drink lots of water.

Sounds like you are a good weight, so to tone up, I would recommend weight training.

2000 calorie diet menu ideas?
Q. i take care of a couple ladies who are diabetic and mentally challenged and on 2000 calorie diet they are also alergic to fish of any kind even to the touch it is very important that they stick to 2000 or a "lil" less !!!! I am just looking for new ideas for theyre meal planning

A. You can buy cookbooks for diabetics, you can also call the Diabetic Association and they can tell you where to get them. You can also ask their dietician associated with their doctor or hospital.

How many calories should eat and how many calories do burn?

Q. How many calories should a 14 year old, 5 - 5.2 feet tall, 113 pounds girl eat a day to lose 13 pounds. Right now i do about 60 min of hula hooping on a weighed hula hoop (2.5 lb) once in the morning and once at night. Anyway I was wondering how many calories do I burn a day and how many calories should I eat to lose 13 pounds.

A. What you should do is count the calories you consume on the average day.
Then subtract 500 calories and that is what you should be eating to lose weight.
This is called a 500 calorie deficit and it is a scientifically proven guaranteed way to lose weight.
Also, if you are interested in cardio, try going for an actual sprint or do squats. Weighted hula-hooping is nowhere near intense enough to have a significant effect. One intense sprint for as far as you can go each day will have a much bigger effect on fat loss.

When counting calories should i pay attention to the calories from fat?
Q. i know your only supposed to eat so many calories a day if your trying to lose weight but should you pay attention to how many calories are from fat??

im trying to lose weight.

A. No. It's a myth that calories from fat are any different to other calories. Once the food is in you it is broken down into units of energy known as calories, which can be used or stored, ragardless of the form they were in when they entered your body.

Do the calories in alcohol work the same way as regular calories?
Q. For example, say Bacardi 151. The stomach pretty much absorbs all the alcohol in a drink which means that it doesn't get digested as thoroughly as regular foods. My understanding of a calories the amount of energy that is contained in it and is measured by the amount of energy given off while burning it. So, does the body "burn" alcohol calories the same as regular bread calories.

A. Haha. Yeah they do.

That's why they're labeled the same.

Q. I'm trying to get myself back in shape for summer but I decided i'm gonna take a shortcut and use diet pills. Any suggestions on which ones are affordable and give great results?

A. None that I know of. Diet pills do not melt the fat away... they only either block absorption of nutrients, or suppress your appetite.

What is a healthy/diet friendly way to cook chicken breast?

Q. I want like a healthy honey mustard chicken or maybe something Italian? I'm up to all ideas tho!
Serious answers only! Thanks!

A. Grill it! Just slather the honey mustard on regularly while it grills.

Italian- you could stuff with cheese and basil, then bread it and oven bake

What exactly does your BMI indicate, and is it something to use as a guideline to weightloss?

Q. When dieting, and what have you, how important is your BMI number, and is a good indication of much weight you need to loose?

A. BMI is Body Mass Index and it is nothing more than statistics based on averages. BMI is only a small indicator, body fat % and water % are much more important.

BMI does not take into account the three different body types which is a very big flaw in the system.

For example a very muscular people can have a bad BMI while their body fat might be below 15%.

I am not a big fan of BMI, but it is a place to start.

How do I replace fat with healthy nutrients when I have correct BMI?
Q. I'll be 21 this 28th and my height is 5'4" . I weigh 60kgs which is right according to my height. But the problem is I have a lot of fat in my belly and thighs and I want to reduce it. How do I reduce the fat and still maintain the correct BMI ? I want to look better by this birthday. Any tips please?

A. Start exercising and cut out how much sodas you drink.
If you drink sodas, don't drink diet, there wost for your health they reg.
Start eating healthy foods, and not so much sweats. That is not to say that you can't ever eat sweats os drink sodas, just don't have a lot of it.

These are some things that will help you get started, but don't go crazy with it either.

Good luck, and don't worry what others think you look like. It should only matter how you think you look like.

I am underweight according to bmi calculators. How can i gain weight with out eating unhealthy food?
Q. I don't want to eat anything that will make me unhealthy or blemish my skin. But I really don't like the idea of being underweight! Does anyone know what I should do? I really appreciate all the help I can get. P.s. I am a vegetarian and would LOVE it if I could keep with that.

A. i dont really think that you have to worry about those stuiped BMI calculators how old are you? Im geussing under 16 if thats true dont worry about it your body is still changing the average person thats going to through puberty is most likely going to be underweight because your growing in height and its eaiser to grow in height then it is to put on an average weight. So just dont worry but if not try target they have these shakes that make you gain weight or try power bars there both very healthy and full of vitamons. But ill repeat dont try to put on weight during puberty because it will catch up with you and you will then be overweight.

What exercise makes you burn more calories?

Q. I run, but i want to know if there is another exercise that makes you burn more calories in 30 minutes?

A. Jumping on a trampoline burns around 200 calories in 15 minutes. It is the best/fast way to lose weight trust me!

What exercise focuses on burning belly fat?
Q. Im really muscular in my arms and my legs.
My stomach, not fat, but not really muscular eaither. What type of exercise will burn belly fat very quickly? I need to cut down on it in? I have a month to do so.
10 points for the best answer.

A. You need a reality check. You CAN NOT spot reduce body fat. There's no secret diet or training routine. Your body loses it uniformly or not at all. Google "spot reduction myth" and you'll get more than enough info on it. Then Google "HIIT cardio" for the best way to burn fat all over. Good luck!

Now where's my ten points?

What exercise can burn the most calories?
Q. Okay, I dont mind the work out, its just that I need to make up an exercise plan to burn more than 2000 calories a day. Is that possible? Anyways, does anyone think that they can give me a plan for a week?
Also some advice on food would help. Such as I only really need to consume around 1000 calories a day. Any advice on what I should eat? -Yes, I know I'm putting my health in danger but its really only temporary. Just need to keep it up for around 4 days.
Thanks!

A. Hey Ashley, i have recently lost over 5 stones it took me a year, I ate sensibly, never missed breakfast ,never ever ever! lunch cuppa soup and brown bread sandwich with meat/cheese and salad, piece of fruit and biscuit(go ahead) tea time get plate bigger than a side plate smaller than a large dinner plate, 3/4 should be veg, lots of broccolli carrots, cauliflower and 1or 2 potatoes and 1/4 meat/fish. What weight loss program helps you detoxify and loss weight at a good rate?

Q. I want to detoxify my body and loss weight healthily and rapidly. I want to lose 90 lbs by the end of the year.

A. I did fatloss4idiots diet plan and I lost about 50 pounds in not even 3 months. And I've kept it off for almost 2 years now. I found it to be the easiest diet because it pretty much told you what you could and couldn't eat and you didn't have to count points or anything like that. What I lost really isn't typical for the amount of time I did it but I know others who have done it and they got really good results from it as well.

What weight loss supplements should I be looking to purchase?
Q. I am 6'3, 240lbs. I am very active day to day. I broke my ankle about 4 months ago and I put on some weight from sitting around doing nothing. Now I am trying to get back on the right track. I am wondering if there are any good supplements out there that would help get me back to where I want to be. At this point I am just looking to start losing weight little by little, but consistent. I would like to lose 20 lbs in 2 months. I know this is achievable I just could use any help I could get. Metabolism boosts, diet supplements, anything on the market now.

Can I use as much olive oil as I want in a Mediterranean diet?

Q. So I attended a class that talk about a study. Subjects that was strictly on a Mediterranean diet was given fruits, nuts, fish, small amounts of red meat, veggies, spices, herbs, olives, and was given a liter of olive oil per week. The other subjects just continued their regular diet. Subjects that was on a Mediterranean diet was found to be healthier, leaner, and reduced their cardiovascular risk by 30%.

What the study didn't mention was whether the subjects actually used a liter of olive oil per week. The liter was given to one subject. Not one family. That seems like a lot. I know olive oil is healthy for you. But doesn't a liter a week seem a lot to you?

A. A liter/wk sounds impossible.

total fat intake is fine @ 4 tablespoons daily, maybe 2 w/ breakfast; 2 w/ dinner.

Oil/fat is very hi cal, 9 cals per gram, carbs & protein are 4; alcohol 7.

How can the mediterranean diet be good for people with bad hearts allows cheese?
Q. i always thought cheese or any type of sold/fats was one of the worse things for hearts.

A. Too much cheese is bad for the heart, but the Mediterranean diet isn't just cheese.

There is a lot of garlic, vinegar, olive oil, red wine, tomatoes, lean meats and fish which are all conducive to a healthy heart.

Also, the Mediterranean diet is generally free of the growth hormones so common in Western meats that are passed on to the consumer and are, in great part, causing the epidemic of obesity in America and Europe.

What are good mediterranean diet foods?
Q. All I can really think of is artichokes, tomatoes(I think), and olives/olive oil. I know fish/lean meat is a big part of the mediterranean diet, but I don't eat meat/dairy (vegan). What are some other mediterranean foods?

A. lentils, chickpeas, eggplant, rice, dates, basil, oregano, lemon and garlic to name a few

after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on

A. O my goodness I asked the same question last week.
Im so sorry your dog has cancer, I know what youre going through and it will be ok.

I make my dogs food as well, as this is the best way to control the cancer. And I give her Orijen grain free kibble if shes still hungry at night.
I mainly feed chicken and just add vegetables I have on hand, like celery, zucchini, potato etc (but not sugary ones)
So far youve got it right, No Grains. These turn to glucose which feeds cancer cells.
You also want to limit naturally sugary vegetables like carrots and pumpkin, and only feed fruit on occasion if you want.

Look up the cancer starving diet, which limits the amount of glucose you give to a dog because cancer cells need glucose to survive.

Here are two GREAT sites

EDIT: I also add NUPRO supplement to her food, which completely balances the meal, as well as Salmon Oil.
It is good to make sure your dog gets a lot of Protein and good fatty acids like Omega 3.

GOOD LUCK

What are some healthy diet suppliments to boost my weight loss?

Q. Do you know any healthy diet suppliments that are also cheap? I'm an overweight teen and I'm 5'9, big boned and about 50 lbs overweight. I exercise and eat very healthy but I haven't lost as much as I believe I can. Plus my family is short on money.

A. The MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, "starving" your self etc.

first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally..

eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be "lean meat" such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID "JUNK FOOD" and "Fast Food" as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is not good .

if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins.

go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours.

if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good.

10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure...but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed...

btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste.

drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

So what if they cut back to eating 2,000 calories a day that is still a good amount of food.

is diet pills, exercise and eating like salads and fruit a bad way to lose weight?

Q. Im starting a diet and basically i am planning on eating lots of salads and fruits. i want to take one diet pill every morning. And i was planning on doing 100 sit ups 100 push-ups and then do some running around the park in the late afternoon. And as I get used to the exercise do push my self to do more and more as my body and time progresses. is this a bad idea?

A. Why waste your money on diet pills? If you eat fruits and salads and excersize you shoould lose a ton of weight without the pills! Haha

What are some diet pills that actually work?
Q. I'd like to kick start my weight loss with a diet supliment. I've heard of proactol and orovo extreme being good ones but they are so expensive. Any ideas or advise?

A. Cyanide. That's it.

What kind of diet pills work really good?
Q. they need to be over the counter, and I need to be able to buy them at a local drugstore.

A. none is the obvious answer, the only thing they do is result in water weight loss, which you gain right back when you start drinking liquids and eating salt (which causes you to bloat)

How can I go on a vegetarian Mediterranean diet?

Can you be on Jenny Craig and not talk to a consultant weekly?

Q. My aunt isn't comfortable talking to a stranger about her weight and weightloss. She is very timid and shy. She isn't comfortable about talking to someone she hasn't met in person about dieting. Is there an option where you can speak to a consultant by e-mail or an option to not speak with a consultant at all?

A. No. You have to speak with a consultant he/she is the one that will be following your progress, giving you the diet, and weighting you.

How do the programs for Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers actually work?
Q. I'm curious how much the food costs for a full month and what are the calorie guidelines if any.

A. I dont know about J.C., but W.W. is not about calories. You get a certain amount of points based on your weight and your activity level, and once you are done with your points, you are done eating for the day. Its a very easy program to follow, and you meet a lot of pple when you go to the meetings. You are weighed in every week, and you set a weight loss goal with help from your leader, once you hit that and you stay at your goal for 6 weeks, you are a member for life for free.

What is the cost of jenny craig food per week?
Q. Just curious. I've been struggling to get the "last ten" off. Weight watchers plateaued me out at 1100 calories a day. So I thought I'd look around for something different.

A. I am currently on Nutrisystem, which is really similar to Jenny Craig, but is actually a lot less expensive!! I absolutely love it! So far, I've lost 15 pounds in my first 4 weeks. The food is delicious and I've been seeing great results!
