What diet is best for quickly healing damaged tissue?

Q. I have a minor surgical incision wound on my foot. I want to know what foods / vitamins / enzymes are best for a rapid recovery of the tissue. I need to be able to dance at my wedding in a few weeks.

A. Vitamin E oil, usually applied on the OUTSIDE, is helpful in reducing scarring. I don't know if it helps healing.

What will help healing and pain the most is to keep your foot elevated.

Good luck

What diet should I feed my dog with cancer?
Q. He has had surgery for hemangiosarcoma, and I want to prolong the life he has left.

I've just switched him to a raw diet combined with all protein and vegetable kibble. No grains.
Yes, I have talked with the vet and he suggested a few different diets. I am looking for peoples' experiences.
I"m also giving him 1000 mg of Omega 3 a day.

A. O my goodness I asked the same question last week.
Im so sorry your dog has cancer, I know what youre going through and it will be ok.

I make my dogs food as well, as this is the best way to control the cancer. And I give her Orijen grain free kibble if shes still hungry at night.
I mainly feed chicken and just add vegetables I have on hand, like celery, zucchini, potato etc (but not sugary ones)
So far youve got it right, No Grains. These turn to glucose which feeds cancer cells.
You also want to limit naturally sugary vegetables like carrots and pumpkin, and only feed fruit on occasion if you want.

Look up the cancer starving diet, which limits the amount of glucose you give to a dog because cancer cells need glucose to survive.

Here are two GREAT sites

http://www.b-naturals.com/newsletter/cancer-diet/

EDIT: I also add NUPRO supplement to her food, which completely balances the meal, as well as Salmon Oil.
It is good to make sure your dog gets a lot of Protein and good fatty acids like Omega 3.

GOOD LUCK

What are some healthy diet suppliments to boost my weight loss?

Q. Do you know any healthy diet suppliments that are also cheap? I'm an overweight teen and I'm 5'9, big boned and about 50 lbs overweight. I exercise and eat very healthy but I haven't lost as much as I believe I can. Plus my family is short on money.

A. The MOST important thing is to eat naturally..without medicines, chemicals, "starving" your self etc.

first, it would be best for you to eat as healthy as possible..this will also help you considerably to lose weight gradually and naturally..

eat fresh fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of WATER..avoid all cokes, caffeines, smoking, alchohol etc. as these also add weight as well as they contain chemicals which disturb your natural bio rythmns as well as brain chemistry. try not to eat too much meat, and the meat you should eat should be "lean meat" such as steamed chicken and rice, or steamed fish with rice..and vegetables,, this should be your staple diet rice and vegetables with fruits..AVOID "JUNK FOOD" and "Fast Food" as this type of food is very unhealthy, lacking in vitamins really and has plenty of fattening molecules which make one gain weight and is not good .

if you snack,, try fruits with yogurt or fruit yogurt and nuts.. nuts are very healthy for your body .and contain proteins.

go for walks every evening or morning or whenever you get time each day for 1 hour or 2 hours..make this somewhere you enjoy walking even if you have to drive a bit to there..and make this a daily routine..you will enjoy it once you get into it ..and it makes you feel great after..just walking for 1 hour or 2 hours.

if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good.

10 pounds (.714 stone ) each month in 3 months you should lose 30 pounds (2 stones, 2 pounds)..for sure...but no junk food and dont drink alcohol or smoke, dont eat junk..just healthy food with vitamins and walking 1 hour or 2 hours every day..and drink plenty of water..this is guaranteed way to lose weight naturally and for good, if you stick to this, which you should,,as it makes you feel so much more positive due to the vitamins and lack of chemicals making you feel depressed...

btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste.

drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

What healthy diet can I follow when I'm not going to be home or around a refrigerator from 10 to 5?
Q. I'm going to be in classes from 10 to 5 daily during the week. What do you recommend I eat so I can still be healthy. I don't want to resort to junk food! I'm looking to lose weight.

A. Pack cans of Campbell's Healthy Selections soups and a microwavable bowl. Progresso also makes healthy soups. Also, toss in an apple or tomato or a banana. Pack individual cans or mini-bottles of V8.

What is a healthy diet for a swimmer trying to lose weight?
Q. I have looked at many weight loss diets and many restrict carbs, but I look at information about a swimmer's ideal diet and the main food is carbs.
How do you go about losing fat if you swim for 1hr/day for 4-5 days/week.

A. Regardless of your fat, protein, carb ratio, as long as calories in (eating) is less than calories out (burned off thru exercise and metabolism) you will drop weight.

The first thing you need to know is how many calories you need to "maintain" your weight (calculators will ask how much you currently weigh, height & work-out schedule). From there you can create a diet that is around 500 calories less than what you need to maintain (a 500 calorie deficit every day for 7 days will result in a loss of a pound..ie it takes 3,500 calories.). If you need "carbs" than you can focus on complex carbs (whole grains) to provide energy through-out the day.

Edit: There is a reason that health experts suggest only 1 - 2 pounds of loss a week. 500 - 1,000 calorie deficit is tough enough for most people...dropping it below that just isn't practical / healthy. This is especially true for people that are already healthy or close to healthy weights (and is what makes them anorexic).

Heavy people can drop off 500 - 1,000 calories a day easy but that is usually because they can eat 3,000 - 3,500 calories to "maintain" there current heavy weight. So what if they cut back to eating 2,000 calories a day that is still a good amount of food.

What kind of diet pills work really good?
Q. they need to be over the counter, and I need to be able to buy them at a local drugstore.

A. none is the obvious answer, the only thing they do is result in water weight loss, which you gain right back when you start drinking liquids and eating salt (which causes you to bloat)

How can I go on a vegetarian Mediterranean diet?

Can I use as much olive oil as I want in a Mediterranean diet?
Q. So I attended a class that talk about a study. Subjects that was strictly on a Mediterranean diet was given fruits, nuts, fish, small amounts of red meat, veggies, spices, herbs, olives, and was given a liter of olive oil per week. The other subjects just continued their regular diet. Subjects that was on a Mediterranean diet was found to be healthier, leaner, and reduced their cardiovascular risk by 30%.

What the study didn't mention was whether the subjects actually used a liter of olive oil per week. The liter was given to one subject. Not one family. That seems like a lot. I know olive oil is healthy for you. But doesn't a liter a week seem a lot to you?

A. A liter/wk sounds impossible.

total fat intake is fine @ 4 tablespoons daily, maybe 2 w/ breakfast; 2 w/ dinner.

Oil/fat is very hi cal, 9 cals per gram, carbs & protein are 4; alcohol 7.

How can the mediterranean diet be good for people with bad hearts allows cheese?
Q. i always thought cheese or any type of sold/fats was one of the worse things for hearts.

A. Too much cheese is bad for the heart, but the Mediterranean diet isn't just cheese.

There is a lot of garlic, vinegar, olive oil, red wine, tomatoes, lean meats and fish which are all conducive to a healthy heart.

Also, the Mediterranean diet is generally free of the growth hormones so common in Western meats that are passed on to the consumer and are, in great part, causing the epidemic of obesity in America and Europe.

Can you be on Jenny Craig and not talk to a consultant weekly?

Q. My aunt isn't comfortable talking to a stranger about her weight and weightloss. She is very timid and shy. She isn't comfortable about talking to someone she hasn't met in person about dieting. Is there an option where you can speak to a consultant by e-mail or an option to not speak with a consultant at all?

A. No. You have to speak with a consultant he/she is the one that will be following your progress, giving you the diet, and weighting you.

How do the programs for Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers actually work?
Q. I'm curious how much the food costs for a full month and what are the calorie guidelines if any.

A. I dont know about J.C., but W.W. is not about calories. You get a certain amount of points based on your weight and your activity level, and once you are done with your points, you are done eating for the day. Its a very easy program to follow, and you meet a lot of pple when you go to the meetings. You are weighed in every week, and you set a weight loss goal with help from your leader, once you hit that and you stay at your goal for 6 weeks, you are a member for life for free.

What is the cost of jenny craig food per week?
Q. Just curious. I've been struggling to get the "last ten" off. Weight watchers plateaued me out at 1100 calories a day. So I thought I'd look around for something different.

A. I am currently on Nutrisystem, which is really similar to Jenny Craig, but is actually a lot less expensive!! I absolutely love it! So far, I've lost 15 pounds in my first 4 weeks. The food is delicious and I've been seeing great results!

For an additional $30 off your first order, you can use one of the following Buddy Bucks promo codes: 7f74ae9, 7f725ad, 7f7039f, 7f8106e, 7f74b0a, 7f7678b, 7f814f2, 7f6b880, 7f791b7, 7f6989e, 7f09477, 7f1702c, 7cf0ce4, 7d002fe, 7f1800d, 7f1230e, 7f1d982, or 7f134be (If one doesn't work, try some of the others. What diet tips have really worked for you?

Q. I have tried every diet book out there. So far, the only thing that's worked for me is a raw diet but I never can stick to it for long!

A. I still eat everything but in moderation and I count the calories that I take to know if I should stop eating for the day because I'm in a 1,000calorie diet, but in that everything I avoid junk foods like chips which I crave for and sweets because they have lots of calories but sometimes maybe once/twice a month its not bad to satisfy your craving, satisfy ok not to be gluttonous for a day and since dieting makes your metabolism slow I also do exercise like jumping rope.
p.s dont eat much carbs I'm Asian and one of our staple foods is rice so in a meal I ate half a rice and dont forget your water.

What are some good exercises and diet tips that can get rid of body fat in the stomach/abs area?
Q. Lately I've been trying to get rid of my excessive fat before my new job starts on Sept. 1. I've been able to tone my whole body, EXCEPT, for my stomach/abs area. What are some good exercises that target the stomach and abs area. Also, what are some foods that I should stay away from that could add fat to my stomach and abs area?

A. Sit ups will not help all they will do is work your ab muscles and create a bigger belly. You will need to burn it of by cardio exercises or running exercises. Running can be a pain you can try a stepping machine or walk your goal is to sweat as much as u can avoid carbonated drinks, avoid sodium or salt that will make you hold water in your system and make it more difficult to exercise. Just because your trying to get rid of fat doesn't mean you can't eat actually the worst thing to do is stop eating eat healthy like fruits, Veggies, and rice, beans, things like that.

What immediate nutrition support method and specialty products would be recommended?

Q. A 43 yr old Chines-Filipino had recent partial gastrectomy. She has history of type 2 diabetes for 2 yrs and cancer of the stomach. She is 75% of her usual weight, which is 125lbs, she is 5 feet 5 inches tall.

A. My husband just succumbed to cancer recently. We tried many things but the thing that worked the best is a product called StemEnhance. It is, basically, adult stem cells and they accomplish the same things as a baby's stem cells would. Stem cells can become any cell in the body. If there is a bad section of the body, these stem cells will go straight to them and start to grow healthy cells. I would ask a doctor before trying them as I don't know what they would do with diabetes. Hope that this answered your ?

How good nutrition is related to the other components of personal fitness?
Q. Also, what are the three components of a sound weight (fat) control program?

A. Outside of activity (of almost any sort) nutrition is a huge factor in weight loss ... calories in must be less than spent calories to lose weight. Period.

Diets are short term solutions to generally poor habits we've learned in eating ... it's not that tough to change however - you just need to want it badly enough. (Making right food choices seems overwhelming at first but remember, if it took 5 years to put on the weight it will take time to lose it and be in shape once again.)

Eat nutritious foods (generally not ready made) and start exercising slowly and then add to it. Stick with it! Make it easy and make it fun!

There are no 'magic' formulas to losing fat. Weight loss is weight loss but you are better served to do some aerobic and anaerobic activities. Meaning, if you lift weights it adds to overall muscle mass (adding body weight) but it also increases metabolism (that will in turn burn calories - including fat.)

Good luck!

How is nutrition related to neuroscience and how does it affect the brain?
Q. Also, anything related to how chemicals in certain foods, like chocolate, affect the brain will be helpful! Thank you!

A. ⢠It is commonly believed that eating carbohydrates is bad for your waistline or health, but this is so not true. Low fat carbohydrates allow the brain to make more serotonin after triggering an insulin release and causing any amino acids in the blood to be absorbed into the body, making you feel better and even helping you with your weight issues.

⢠Eating carbohydrates on their own is a good idea to increase serotonin levels as fat and protein can interfere with the serotonin making process. Low carbohydrate dieters are more likely to suffer from lack of energy and low moods and high protein foods tend to lower brain tryptophan which in turn will lessen serotonin levels.

⢠Tryptophan is involved in the production of serotonin, which is a natural tranquilizer. It is useful in treatment of depression and anxiety attacks and it helps reduce the manic phase of depression with much fewer side effects than anti-depressants. Combined with vitamin B-6, tryptophan may be also helpful in reducing panic attacks.

⢠Tryptophan is used in smoking cessation, grinding teeth during sleep, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder- ADHD and in improving athletic performance.

How many carbs can i eat in the Atkins diet?

Q. Hi, I am thinking of doing my own Atkins thing but i am not sure how many carbs can i have a day. Does cheese have alot of carbs? How fast will i lose weight?

A. pills..drugs...food..everyone misses the most important aspect..exercise...if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but EXERCISING!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that.

1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day

2.) drink lots of water

3.)exercise every day

4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep

instead of an Atkins diet I suggest the South Beach Diet

What is the common wisdom now about the Atkins diet?
Q. I know you shouldn't be on it long-term, and I've heard that the best way is to go on it for two weeks and then take a break. Is this true, and if so how long a break? What is the best way to use the diet?

A. According to the studies the Atkins diet does work, but it's not a whole of life solution. At some point you have to come off the diet, at which point you'll have to find some other way to keep your weight under control, which is where most people end up failing.

How does the atkins diet work?
Q. I read that on the atkins diet you eat alot of fats and proteins and very minimal carbs. But do i really have to increase my fat intake? Can i just keep my fat and protein intake the same but just lower my carb intake to 20 net carbs a day? Will i still lose the same amount of weight if i do this? Also is 1200 calories enough to eat for me to burn fat storage? Any info is helpful.

10 points best answer! Thanks!

A. It's hard not to increase your fat intake as you will tire of chicken & fish very quickly. Also fruits are a big no no, so by not wanting to increase your fat intake you are limiting yourself to lean meats and green veggies which is an extremely strict diet and near impossible to stick to. I went on Atkins about 8yrs ago and after about a month of the diet it was giving me such sever runs, it was no wonder I lost 30lbs in 3 months. When I decided my body couldn't handle much more I went off the diet and promptly gained back 50lbs in 3 months (not dieting, but not eating terribly unhealthy either).. It wasn't until I just started counting calories, watching my food intake and exercising that I actually lost/and kept off 85lbs. I still eat whole wheat pasta/rice probably 4xper week and still can lose weight, so carbs are not necessarily the enemy so long as your monitoring your portion sizes.

A. 25 points. i did weightwatchers when i was 12 and i am messed up with my eating. i also did another diet when i was 10.

How many weight watchers points in a sweet potato pie from bojangles?
Q. I can't find it in my weight watchers point book how many points are in a slice of sweet potato pie. Can someone please assist me if they know the answer?

A. Sweet potatoes are good, like apples are good.
Sweet potatoes pies or apple piesâ¦are not so good.
Personally, Iâve never been in a Bojangles restaurant (or a Dairy Queen, Jack in the Box, White Castle, Sonic and such).

I donât need weight watchers but you might need to stay home and cook healthy meals.
You want a sweet potato and donât know how to cookâ¦you pop one in the microwave for a few minutes.
Do not boil it and lose water soluble vitamins.

Fast food restaurants should not even be in your vocabulary if you have some weight issues. Maybe you cannot find some weight watchers points for a place you're not supposed to be at.

How do the weight watchers allowance points work?
Q. It is saying that I have 49 unused points this week. What does this mean and what do I do with them?

A. 49 is the number of points you are allowed to use weekly, above and beyond your daily points. You can use these whenever you want that week. You can save them for the weekend if you like to indulge a bit with friends. I also know people that simply divide them up and add 7 extra points to each day.

What are some natural remedies and diet tips for my cat's kidney disease?
Q. My cat, 6 yrs old, could possibly have kidney failure (it might be a bladder infection but I won't find out for another 2 weeks after antibiotics); he's still energetic and doesn't show any signs of illness. Ironically I have kidney disease as well and am using natural remedies like dandelion root tea and other herbs. Wheatgrass has also improved my health a lot. I am wondering these herbs would apply to cats as well?

Does anyone have any suggestions for diet (should it be homemade)? I've been doing research and they all say low salt, but some sites say good high quality protein while others say low protein. And should I stop using the chemical Frontline (flea medicine) on my cat?

Also, where on my cat are his kidneys located?

Thanks!

A. First off...the kidneys are located just past the send of the rib cage on both sides...the right kidney is slightly closer to the front of the cat. Frontline Plus doesn't go into the animals system, so it will have no effects on the kidneys...so don't stop using it. I wouldn't reccomend any "natural remedies" without consulting your vet...cats and people can very different recations to plants...and a lot of plats can be nephrotoxic (toxic to the kidneys) in cats!

A diet wont help kidney failure until bloodwork confirms Azotemia...this means the that BUN and CREATINIE are elevated. So unless this has been confirmed by your vet, changing the diet wont help. However, if Azotemia is confirmed, then a low protein/low phospherous diet is highly recomended. The protein that is in the kidney diets is a high quality one. Several brands make kidney diets.... Purina NF, Royal Canin/IVD modified....Hill's K/D..... Royal Canin Renal LP..... However, they are by prescription only, so you have to get them from your vet. If you are interested in making your own diet, you can contact UC Davis, and for a small fee, they will formulate a diet you can cook at home specificaly for your cats needs....

I'm not sure why its going to take so long to confirm that your cat has kidney disease...a simple blood test should confirm if the kidney values are normal or not.

Good Luck!

btw, forgot to mention,,just in case you dont know how to really make healthy meals..buy a "food steamer" at your local deparment store..they are very cheap and work very well..as well as buy a "rice cooker" which is also very cheap..eating rice is a great way to get your necessary carbs "healthy carbs" to lose weight and has lots of natural energy inside. you can buy asian rice at most large supermarkets or if you have a local oriental market..they sale quality asian rice.. thai or indian rice is good "jasmine rice".. buy corn or canola oil to sprinkle on vegetables or rice before steaming to add to taste as well as you can buy several nice spices like "cumin" or "Curry powders", etc.just sprinkle on the vegetables before steaming to give nice taste.

drink "Green Tea" as this is very healthy and helps burn extra fat faster...you can buy quality green tea at most oriental shops or large supermarkets as well

Where can i see more about HCG Diet Menu?
Q. From 65KG to 55KG in one year, this is what I personality experience all the process, to me it is a miracles. Like all the white-collar because of poor eating habit, do not exercising enough and a malfunctioning metabolism, I am getting much fatter, fortunately I find the best way to lose weight - HCG Diet menu.

A. The HCG diet works for women. I've done extensive research and studies on this diet.

You must use legitimate HCG (injectable or sublingual). Do not fall for the many HCG scams out there today, especially the supplement variety. HCG is a prescription drug. The HCG drug is about $60 for a vial of 10,000 IUs, of course it requires a prescription. You can find an "anti aging" doctor in your area that will prescribe this. Some doctors that prescribe HCG might charge a higher consultation fee to administer it.

The many tests you will see referenced pointing to the HCG diet not working are flawed tests. These tests used many male subjects and men respond totally different to HCG than women do. Additionally, these tests failed to administer the diet correctly and used improper doses of the HCG compound.

The reason the HCG diet works for women is that it changes the her body chemistry. It tricks her body into thinking it is pregnant allowing her to eat as little as 500 calories a day and it not affect her health adversely.

Normally when eating a 500 calorie diet, an individual would lose muscle tissue as a result of inadequate calorie intake. The body would preserve and protect body fat and break down muscle tissue for survival reasons.

When HCG is present it causes her body to think she is pregnant and it will start accessing body fat stores for energy rather than muscle tissue. It will also decrease her appetite causing her to not have a hungry feeling all the time.

But you have to follow the HCG diet exactly without wavering. Any slip up will knock her out of the chemical state that HCG put her in.

Of course, after the diet, you cannot just start eating anything you want and expect to keep the weight off. The HCG diet does not correct your bad habits.

I currently have a 42 yr old client that is on the HCG diet and she has lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks with zero strength loss. She has been working out 4-6 days a week on cardio and weight training all of her life and had hit a wall. It seems like no matter what she did, she couldn't lose weight past a certain point. The HCG diet put her over the threshold and she feels better than ever. But it does require discipline and work. You have to stick to the strict diet exactly, no exceptions.

A very good resource to learn about the HCG diet is a forum at: http://hcgdietinfo.com/hcgdietforums/forâ¦

Good luck!

What is the 3 day diet menu for QUICK WEIGHT LOSS?
Q. I have a friend that mentioned a 3 day diet where you eat hard boiled eggs, raw green vegetables, an orange, and either beef or chicken everyday for 3 days. Where can I find more details and an explanation of how much, etc???

A. Diet Schedule:

1. Commit to consuming 4 - 6 small meals and snacks everyday.

2. To succeed, you must plan ahead by packing your foods the night before. Thus, you should always have fresh and low-fat foods around.

3. Keep it simple. Don't get too caught up on the specifics or your diet. Start by simply just counting calories.

4. Eat your foods slower.

5. Make healthier food selections like fruits, vegetables, whole grain cereals, and beans, low-fat or nonfat dairy products, low fat meats, fish and skinless poultry.

6. Avoid foods that are high in fat and calories.

7. Avoid foods that are high in sugars such as pastries, candy bars, pies and candy.

8. Use a variety of fruits and vegetables in your nutrition plan. Start by trying to eat 5 total vegetable and fruit servings every single day.

How to lose weight with a sluggish thyroid?

Q. I have early stage graves disease and it has made losing weight one of the most annoying and frustrating things ever. I have cut out fast food, eat less chocolate, eaten more healthier foods, I walk everyday and nothing. I have maybe lost two pounds but I need to lose more than that.

A. Duvet,

Trying to lose weight with an underworking thyroid is like a bird trying to fly without wings. Remember, thyroids regulate the speed of your metabolism, and this is crucial to ensure an effective use of foods and distribution of macronutrients in your system.

There are things wich use you should decrease, while there are other things you should remove permanently if you want to see results. By the way, chocolate, coffe, dairies, eggs, soy, cabbgae, broccoli and its whole family, white sugar, fried foods, sodas and high-stress proteins should be completely removed form your diet.

Duvet, dare to go on raw foods for at least 45 days. You will not regret it. When you do so, more than 300 enzymatic complexes in your body will be reset, and chances are that your thyroid may respond fantastically to it. One thing I know: you'll be benefitted greatly, even if your thyroids do not recover 100%.

Vitamin B6, Iodine from natural sources (kelp, seaweed, etc.), Magnesium, and--since you have Grave's Disease--an immune modulator like Transfer Factor Plus or others similar, will help you great deal.

Good luck! :)

How to lose weight on a certian medication?
Q. I am on a medication that causes people to gain weight and have gained about 25lbs and am having a hard time losing weight. Any suggestions.

A. Unfortuantely some meds that help us get better also have negative side effects. I found that exercising, even a simple walk, helps....but the main thing I would say is to change your eating habits. I also use Slim Quick from GNC and it works excellent with no caffine effects like other so called "diet" pills. I've kept the weight off while taking these AND I barely exercise anymore sinc eI am back full time at work and college at night.

Good Luck!

How does nutrition assistance aka food stamps work?

Q. I live in Arizona and the unemployment rate here is $240.00 before federal and state taxes. You are then left with $214.00. I was wondering how does nutrition assistance aka food stamps work? Do you receive a check, or a debit card?

A. The first thing you should do is go to the website, and use the screening tool to see if you might qualify: https://www.azdes.gov/variant.aspx?id=5199

You can view the formula for eligibility requirements by visiting: https://www.azdes.gov/main.aspx?menu=355&id=5202

You receive a card that contains your nutrition assistance on it. The card works like an ATM or Debit card at grocery stores and other places where EBT is accepted. The card is a QUEST Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that is issued to the receiptant by JP Morgan. Sometimes they send you a card, and then later you learn that you are ineligible, it's the way their system works.

How do I replace fat with healthy nutrients when I have correct BMI?

Q. I'll be 21 this 28th and my height is 5'4" . I weigh 60kgs which is right according to my height. But the problem is I have a lot of fat in my belly and thighs and I want to reduce it. How do I reduce the fat and still maintain the correct BMI ? I want to look better by this birthday. Any tips please?

A. Start exercising and cut out how much sodas you drink.
If you drink sodas, don't drink diet, there wost for your health they reg.
Start eating healthy foods, and not so much sweats. That is not to say that you can't ever eat sweats os drink sodas, just don't have a lot of it.

These are some things that will help you get started, but don't go crazy with it either.

Good luck, and don't worry what others think you look like. It should only matter how you think you look like.

I am underweight according to bmi calculators. How can i gain weight with out eating unhealthy food?
Q. I don't want to eat anything that will make me unhealthy or blemish my skin. But I really don't like the idea of being underweight! Does anyone know what I should do? I really appreciate all the help I can get. P.s. I am a vegetarian and would LOVE it if I could keep with that.

A. i dont really think that you have to worry about those stuiped BMI calculators how old are you? Im geussing under 16 if thats true dont worry about it your body is still changing the average person thats going to through puberty is most likely going to be underweight because your growing in height and its eaiser to grow in height then it is to put on an average weight. So just dont worry but if not try target they have these shakes that make you gain weight or try power bars there both very healthy and full of vitamons. But ill repeat dont try to put on weight during puberty because it will catch up with you and you will then be overweight.

How to drop my BMI but not appear as a stick?
Q. I am currently 5'8 149pds. And lately i've been dieting well and working out every other day. I am trying to create a lean muscle definition and get my abs to show but I am starting to feel and look to scrawny? Any tips to help me drop my bmi to about 9% but not in the end weigh only like 120pds????

Currrently my bmi is 19.2%
And I weigh 149 pds.

A. It seems to me that you want to be somewhat muscular and lean, but for your own sake you need to clearly define your ultimate goal.

The only way to look more ripped is to lose fat and add some muscle. Get out of the mind set of BMI and numbers on the scale. There are plenty of resources you can research about improving your diet and providing structure for workouts depending on what you want to look like.

How to lose weight fast and healthily?

Q. I weigh 137 pounds and I really want to lose some weight, because I'm extremely embarrassed to go swimming. I know there's really no "fast" way to lose weight, but what can I do to lose weight? I always drink water instead of sugary drinks, and I do 100 sit-ups and ballet squats before I go to bed every night. Any other important tips and exercises I can do for great results? Oh and I want to lose fat on my stomach, hips, and I want to tone my legs.

A. Ok so when I was 13 and when I just turned 14, I was about 125 pounds and 5'1 or 5'2. They said I was a healthy weight but I didnt look very healthy and I was always embarrassed by how I looked. Anyways now im 15, 113 pounds, and 5'3. I lost weight by walking or running at least an hour a day. 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. Try running a bit during that time if you can. I live in two homes and theres not much place to run or walk 30 minutes in my second home so I decided to do swimming till I got to my other home. Swimming, and doing as many laps in the pool as you can, burns fat super fast! Well from what i've experienced. Also, you could hold on the to side of the pool and kick your legs underwater and that burns fat really fast too. After I started swimming, the scale said I gained more weight (I was 116) but it was muscle, not fat, because I looked skinnier than before. But yeah, thats a few ways you could do it. :) Oh, one more thing that could help in weight loss is Apple Cider Vinigar. I know it sounds weird and gross but it really helps. You take 8 oz of water and put two tsp of apple cider vinigar in it. I put three tsp of it, but for beginners, two would be the best till your stomach gets used to of it. Only if you want. But if you do, take it at least twice a day. All this will really help you lose weight and tone your body. :))

How to lose weight without getting muscles?
Q. Hello, i'm planning to lose some weight. I heard that cardio is good so i've started to run and cycle. But i'm afraid that too much of cardio will make me muscular too! I do not want that to happen! Just slim and lean like Alessandra Ambrosio. :) so i need some recommendations on how to get a figure like her. I have a hourglass shape but it's not very obvious. And i tend to gain weight on the thighs too. Any help? Thx!

A. If you just do a lot of cardio, you will become what they call skinny fat, no the best solution. To get a nice curvy, athletic, body you need to do weights and cardio. If you're a girl you WILL NOT gain a lot of muscles because girls don't have as much testosterone as guys do. Through a very complicated process testosterone plays a crucial role in muscle building. Girls do have it too, but in a much smaller quantities. So don't be afraid of getting too muscular, not gunna happen, unless you start injecting it.

How to lose weight in my circumstances?
Q. I am 17 years old, and I am starting to get love handles and chest fat. I'm not obese or even overweight according to my BMI --I can even dress up casually and not look fat at all--, but I don't want this increase in mass to go on any further. What are your suggestions on daily exercise routines? Or do you have a website where I can find info for teens? I know teenagers burn calories faster than adults, so most of the routines I've found I don't think apply to me. Currently I am running one to two miles every day, doing 50 sit ups, and 25 push ups. I am planning on doubling the sit ups and push ups just as soon as I get used to the current amount. So please guide me in this if you can.
I am 5'7" and weigh 152 lbs.

A. Get Lean with the Magnetic Diet Seven Step Plan

Combined with strength conditioning, energization exercises, pranayama life force control and meditation the magnetic diet seven step plan will when followed guarantee that you achieve a low level of body fat in a predetermined period of time. Ultimate leanness is defined as single digit body fat percentages for men and low teen body fat percentages for women. This is the level of body fat necessary if you want to be able to actually see the definition of your abdominal muscles. The magnet diet in combination with the right amount of physical activity will create the necessary calorie deficit to achieve ultimate leanness. The time it takes for you to achieve that will of course depend on how much fat you have to lose.

For example, if you currently weigh 200 pounds and are at 23% body fat and your goal is to be at 9% body fat you have about 25 pounds of fat to loose. To loose 25 pounds of fat while maintaining or even gaining muscle should take you approximately 6 to 7 months. You can lose 25 pounds in a much quicker time frame, but will it be 25 pounds of fat? No it will not, remember when you lose weight too quickly much of the weight lost can end up being muscle. And as we learned earlier if you lose muscle you will create the condition for a boomerang weight gain of fat down the road. Now 6 to 7 months may sound like a long time but in reality its not. In our society we want everything quick and easy, but the truth is that nothing worth having comes quick or easy. 6 to 7 months of your life will pass by no matter what you do, you cannot stop time. But by following the magnetic diet seven step success plan the difference will be that 6 to 7 months from the time you start you will have achieved your goal, you will have attained your desired body fat percentage, you will look great and most important of all you will have achieved a very high level of health and vitality. Remember the goal is to lose fat and maintain or even gain muscle so losing the fat slowly is the way. Here is the plan:

Step 1.

Determine your current body fat percentage

Get your body fat measured by a personal trainer or health professional, or purchase Tanita body composition monitor or other similar device.

Step 2.

Decide on a goal body fat percentage:

Whatâs it going to be 15%, 10%, 5%? They are all achievable, you just have to decide. Once you have decided then calculate the amount of fat that you will have to lose. Take you current body fat percentage minus the goal body fat percentage and convert that to a decimal value add 1 and divide your current weight by that amount. The difference between the result and your current weight is the number of pounds of fat you need to lose. For example a 200 pound person at a 23% body fat who wants to achieve a 9% body fat would do the following:

23 percent minus 9 percent = 14 percent
14 percent = .14
.14 +1 = 1.14
200 pounds divided by 1.14 = 175 pounds
200 â 175 = 25 pounds of fat to lose

Step 3.

Determine your current resting metabolic rate

Determine your current resting metabolic rate using the formulas on page 112.

Step 4.

Determine your maximum daily caloric intake

Remember you want to create a calorie per day deficit so maximum daily caloric intake is equal to your resting metabolic rate plus any additional physical activity as measured in calories minus 500 calories.

Use this as a tool: http://www.magnetic-diet.com/calc/daily_calorie_calculator.htm

Step 5.

Adjust the diet using portion sizes and snacks

Adjust the portion sizes slightly in the main meals or add or subtract snack portions to get to the maximum daily caloric intake.

Step 6

Determine the length of time to achieve your goal

The amount of fat you need to lose divided by a pound a week = the number of weeks it will take to achieve your goal.

Step 7

Follow the Magnetic Diet Seven Day Success Plan Not only will it result in your achieving your goal but it will ensure life long health and vitality. Adjust your caloric intake and activity level as your weight drops. Remember as your body weight drops so do your caloric needs. You must reduce your caloric intake or you will reach a plateau.

What weight loss program helps you detoxify and loss weight at a good rate?

Q. I want to detoxify my body and loss weight healthily and rapidly. I want to lose 90 lbs by the end of the year.

A. I did south beach and I lost about 50 pounds in not even 3 months. And I've kept it off for almost 2 years now. I found it to be the easiest diet because it pretty much told you what you could and couldn't eat and you didn't have to count points or anything like that. What I lost really isn't typical for the amount of time I did it but I know others who have done it and they got really good results from it as well.

How long after starting a gluten free diet will your stomach start to feel better?

Q. I have a gluten sensitivity. I just started going gluten free a week ago but I still get stomach pain and I'm still running to the bathroom. How long does the diet take to workk?

A. Well I'm not sure if you are hoping to lose weight or if you are just looking to resolve some stomic issues but here was my experience:

I was constantly running to the bathroom for about two or three weeks after I started.

If weight loss is your goal then I do have some good news (but this is really only if you truely are gluten intollerant) after the first 3 weeks of no exercise what so ever I lost 12 pounds. At that point I got really excited and started hitting the gym and now I am 6 weeks into my diet and have lost 21 pounds after putting on about 5 pounds of muscle and my body has changed dramatically. I always thought I was genetically fat but it turns out gluten intollerance runs in my family and I got on the diet after seeing the results of my other family members who did the same.

All of these results are with zero time in the gym or doing any sort of cardio
My aunt who first started the diet has lost 37 pounds in the 7 months she has done it (she was relatively thin to begin with.

My mom and another one of my aunts started it at the same time and one lost 29 in 5 months while my mom lost 51 (my mom was the heaviest)

My uncle started it 4 months ago and he has lost 35 pounds.

The really amazing thing is that with the exception of myself all the people I listed are in their late 40's or early 50's (I'm 21) and have always struggled with being overweight or even obese. If you havent visited a professional about the diet then I suggest you do so because there are many other factors that may contribute. For example My mom, my aunt, and I all have B12 defficency and are also unable to process red meat while my uncle discovered he is allergic to quite a few fruits. Hope this was helpful in some way i kinda rambles lol

What reasons would one have a gluten-free diet other than having celiac disease?
Q. I heard on Y! Answers of a vegan who didn't eat gluten by choice apparently (they didn't appear to suffer from celiac disease). Are there any pros/reasons that you can think of that would convince a vegan to go gluten-free if they didn't suffer from celiac disease? Are there certain health benefits or anything?

A. Some people say that eating a gluten free diet is beneficial for neurological and mental conditions like ADHD, Autism and even anxiety and depression. Some people don't eat it because they just think it's healthier not to. Personally I don't think it makes any difference if you don't have any intolerance to gluten. I've also noticed that some people think they have a gluten intolerance when it's really a blood sugar problem from eating white refined grain products (white bread, white pasta, etc) and they're fine with whole grains.

What are the benefits of a gluten free diet?
Q. This question is for people who have ever tried the gluten free diet or considering a gluten-free diet. Have you felt different ever since you started the gluten free diet? What does it prevent tell me all the benefits. Also if i do a gluten free diet what can and cannot eat. Please give me gluten free diet cons and pros, Thank you for answering my question.

A. I started a low-gluten/gluten free diet when I got serious about my fitness.

I feel lighter after meals and more able to exercise. Plus my muscle/fat ratio is continually improving. Many people are intolerant to some extent without realising it and many digestive issues can be solved by butting gluten out of the diet.

Plus, while a gluten-restrictive diet is not necessarily calorie restricted, the fact that more of your calories come from protein and the fact many snacks are off-limits often translates to a lower-calorie diet, which has obvious benefits for weight loss.

I wouldn't personally recommend Atkins as a diet plan. I understand using it to lose weight in the short term but I think the macro-nutrient profile of the diet is less than beneficial in the long term. As an alternative I would recommend looking at the Paleo or Primal diet. It's based around fruits, lean meats, root vegetables and so forth. I've been doing that but including dairy products and have seen great results.

Stuff that contains gluten includes bread, pasta, rice and most empty/bulk carbs. After a while, you'll get used to checking food labels to see if stuff is gluten free.

Good luck!

How many grams of fat should I have on Atkins diet and when will I start seeing results?

Q. Hi I have been on the Atkins diet for 2 weeks now, and I haven't lost any weight yet. I am actually a healthy BMI and I was just checking to see when I will start seeing results. Please let me know and here is my meal plan for today does it seem like I'm doing it right?

Breakfast: 2 eggs 1 slice of bacon and 2 tiny turkey sausages fried in butter

Lunch: Mahi Mahi in butter with homemade tartar sauce (dill pickle, mayonnaise, spices) and small salad with hearts of palm and lettuce with 1 table spoon blue cheese dressing and vinegar

Dinner: Hamburger patty with cheddar cheese or chicken?

A. you don't count fat in the Atkins diet. It's carbohydrates that you need to keep low. Eggs and bacon, fine. Turkey sausages may contain rusk - which is carbohydrate. Don't know what tartar sauce contains but dill pickle MAY have carbohydrate. Mayonnaise with full fat is fine but NOT low or lite versions. Blue cheese dressing MAY contain carbs.

Keep cheese low, some of it can contain carbs.

Any fish, meat, chicken, eggs, fine. Avoid processed meat if possible (that includes bacon and sausages).
Any salad or leafy green veg is fine, Avoid peas, carrots, etc, as they are starchy veg (carbs).
Butter, oil, fat, etc is fine.

My breakfast on Atkins would often be fried eggs, or scrambled eggs or hard boiled eggs, or cold meat from previous day or tuna, or salad or a mixture of these.

Lunch might be similar. Dinner would be some kind of protein with plenty of green veg.

I have provided a link to the Atkins site because they have plenty of info on there.

Make sure you eat PLENTY of fibre and drink PLENTY of water.

A helpful audio book is "The butt stops here: low carb version" by Pam Young. I have provided a link to her free videos that cover low carb

Is the atkins diet good for building muscle?
Q. I'm 5'10" 170 pounds, I'm in good physical shape I'd just like to get more ripped but still keep my weight relatively low (180 pounds at the most) but look much more ripped than I am now. Would the atkins diet be good for this?

A. The Atkins diet is a disaster for someone with your intentions of building lean muscle. It can sap your strength big time and cut into any gains in size that you are trying to make right now. Try to avoid cutting carbs very much when you are trying to build muscle.

What are the effects you experience when you leave the atkins diet and start eating healthily again?
Q. Eating healthy fats, complex carbs, counting your calories and weightliifting regularily again. What happens to your body when you leave atkins?

A. There is no better way to bring the body to the state of optimal health than with a low carb way of eating. Low carb doesn't cause high blood pressure, high blood sugar or high cholesterol, it cures it. It is actually dangerous to take meds that lower these levels and do low carb at the same time because the levels will become dangerously low. Simple carbohydrates trigger insulin. High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Anything less that 9 grams of carbs per hour controls insulin and is considered low carb (up to 144 grams per day).

U.S. government guidelines were changed 35 years ago to suggest we lower our fat intake & increase our carb intake. American society followed these recommendations & lowered their fat intake by 11% & increased their carb consumption. In this same time frame obesity, diabetes, heart disease are all at epidemic levels. Through their direct effects on insulin & blood sugar, refined carbohydrates are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease & diabetes.

A low carbohydrate diet is a high fat diet. The protein should only be a little higher than adequate. Although it is completely possible to live on a fat/protein only diet for long term (as proven by research done in a hospital setting) it becomes boring fairly quickly. Luckily many vegetables & some fruits, nuts & seeds are low in carbs and greatly expand the diet. Most long term low carbers eat as many, if not more non starchy vegetables than vegetarians.

Glucose is the bodies preferred fuel (if you want to get technical, it actually burns alcohol most efficiently, but that doesn't make it any healthier for the body than carbs), the body can convert 100% of carbs, 58% of protein & 10% of dietary fat into glucose. The body can also be fueled by fat (dietary fat & fat cells) but only in the absence of carbs. Your brain actually prefers* to be fueled by ketones (part of the fat burning process), it does require glucose also, but glucose can be easily converted from excess protein if needed or dietary fat.

Plaque build up in the arteries is more attributable to carb consumption than dietary fats, which seems to be the conclusion of the following study. Carb consumption raises triglycerides & VLDL (bad cholesterol). Fats raise the HDL (good cholesterol). High triglyceride levels (>100) & low HDL levels (<60) are an indicator of plaque & glycation - the precursors to a heart attack & heart disease.

http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/after-eating-effects-carbohydrates-vs.html

study from the Oxford group examining the postprandial (after-eating) effects of a low-fat vs. low-carbohydrate diet. (Roberts R et al, 2008)

Postprandial lipoproteins, you'd think, would be plentiful after ingesting a large quantity of fat, since fat must be absorbed via chylomicrons into the bloodstream. But it's carbohydrates that figure most prominently in determining the pattern and magnitude of postprandial triglycerides and lipoproteins. Much of this effect develops by way of de novo lipogenesis, the generation of new lipoproteins like VLDL after carbohydrate ingestion.

Gary Taubes who wrote "Good Calories, Bad Calories" spent 7 years going through all the studies over the last century & dividing up the real science from the faulty science & concluded that low carb was the best way to control insulin levels which balances out other hormones & allows the body to function properly.

His main points are:

1. Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease or any other chronic disease.

2. The problem is refined carbs in diet, their effect on insulin secretion & the hormonal regulation of homeostasis.

3. Sugars - sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup specifically - are particularly harmful, the combination of fructose & glucose simultaneously elevates insulin levels & overload liver with carbs.

4. Through their direct effects on insulin and blood sugar, refined carbs, starches, sugars are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease & diabetes. They are likely dietary causes of cancer, Alzheimer's & other diseases.

5. Obesity is a disorder of excess fat accumulation, not overeating.

6. Consuming excess calories does not cause us to grow fatter.

7. Fattening & obesity are caused by an imbalance in the hormonal regulation of adipose tissue & fat metabolism.

8. Insulin is the primary regulator of fat storage. When insulin levels fall, we release fat from fat tissue.

9. By stimulating insulin secretion, carbs make us fat.

10. By driving fat accumulation, carbs also increase hunger & decrease the amount of energy we expend in metabolism & physical activity.

Atkins diet: I had a salad where the dressing had too many carbs. Do I need to start over?

Q. Yesterday was my Day 2 on Induction. I had a chicken salad with raspberry vinegrette dressing by mistake. Do I need to start induction over again?
I do not know how many carbs were in the dressing.

A. Just keep on going, you're doing fine, it couldn't have that many carbs unless it had sugar in it and even if it did, tomorrow is a new day. I know you're not suppose to have fruit but that's a minor ooops.

You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

If you starve yourself by lowering calories lower than are needed for the body to function, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn't get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn't slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Once you get near your goal, you start adding 5 carbs every 3 days til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight. Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.

Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calorie, bad calorie" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.

Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!

What is the difference between the old Atkins Diet and the Dr Atkins All New Diet Revolution?
Q. Please I just want an answer if you know it.

I do not want any information about miracle diets or wonder drugs please.

I already just wasted on question with those types of replies.

Thanks
Honestly you people. Why bother to answer if you can't.

I am not interested in people who want to be fascetious and I certainly am not interested in people advertising their diet regimes. It was a simple question if you don't know the answer then don't bother with a reply.

A. No difference between the two.

The Atkins Diet that encourages high dairy and meat protein and fats, that 'eventually' plug up everyone's liver have not changed.

I agree with low carb high protein, just not making a diet of dairy-calcium, meat-cholesterol, and too many fats like I used to do.

Campbell's "The China Study" agrees with this view.

The people who are profiting from Atkins methods have changed only a little since Dr. Atkins passing. When it pays the bills it is hard to change one's view of the simple facts. Similar to someone who sells cigarettes for a living, who insists nicotine is not a carcinogen or addictive.

I HOPE you will take my advice that I posted for you and others at <>http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akw6EF9KqYEZEjdgXQYevPDty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090924021737AA5D9qV&show=7#profile-info-c19a4184b9a244c77149cbb9521f7f38aa<>

AND would understand my history and my complaints with the Atkins diet that I posted at <>http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090922235820AArWxgX&r=w<>

SOOoo you would not duplicate my own naivete, with yourself or with those you love, to your own hurt.

I WISH you good health with better info and insights than I have had.

My best to you and yours.

How should i start my atkins diet?
Q. I am going to start atkins diet monday. Should i start it by eating not many carbs sunday or should i eat alot of carbs sunday? Which way will i get better faster results to go into ketosis? ALSO if you know, On average how long does it take for the body to go into ketosis? Also does exercising help get into ketosis faster?

A. Atkins did not die from this dietâhe slipped on black ice while walking to his office, hit his head and died a week later. The radical vegan folks spread that lie a few years back, and it seems to rear its ugly head once in a while.

All your questions are answered in his book, so it sounds like you are trying to do Atkins without reading Atkins. Just get his book and read it, then you will know exactly what to do, and how to do it right. It can be a very successful and healthy diet, but you need more information than just what you think an Atkins diet is.
